Why Goat Milk Makes Such Good Soap
The soap I make here on the farm always starts with one ingredient that makes it a little different from most soaps: fresh goat’s milk.
People often ask why goat milk is used in soap in the first place. The answer comes down to what it adds to the finished bar.
Goat’s milk contains naturally occurring vitamins and fatty acids that contribute to a creamy, gentle lather. When it’s combined with oils like olive and coconut during the soap making process, it helps create a bar that feels rich and moisturizing rather than harsh or drying.
There’s also something special about using fresh milk directly from my own homestead. Each batch of soap begins with milk from our ladies, which are hand milked right here. It’s a slower and more expensive way of doing things, but it connects the soap directly to the place it was made. Most soaps only need to be 1% goats milk in order to carry the label of 'Goat's Milk Soap', and by keeping the process here, the product remains true to its source with no fillers and no greenwashing.
So, that connection is one of the reasons I started making soap in the first place. When you know exactly where your ingredients come from, it changes how you think about the things you use every day.
Soap might seem simple, but it’s something we use on our skin constantly. Making it with thoughtful ingredients and a traditional process makes a real difference.
And it all starts with the goats.
Ok, bye!
