More Details: This is a beginner-friendly class that walks you through the process of making your very own traditional cold process soap. You’ll be working with lye (sodium hydroxide) and making a batch from scratch, then pouring into 4 (4 ounce) soap molds.
We’ll suit up with apron, goggles, and gloves, then weigh and mix our oils. Next you’ll make your lye solution, and while it cools, you’ll pick your scent and your clay color. Once everything is ready, we’ll blend it all together, stir in your clay and scent, and pour your soap into the mold. You’ll leave with your mold filled, labeled, and ready to set on the counter to harden at home.
A quick heads up, because I want this to be fun and smooth for everyone: this is a hands-on class working with lye, so safety matters the whole time. This class is 18+ only, and you’ll need to follow the safety steps exactly (goggles and gloves stay on when lye is out and while the soap is still raw). I’ll walk you through it and I’ll be right there with you, start to finish.
Class time is about 2 hours. Your soap will be ready to unmold in 24 to 48 hours, and it cures for 4 to 6 weeks for the best, hardest bars. This soap is made with no preservatives and is best used within one year.
What’s included: all materials, your mold of 4 soaps to take home, and simple printed instructions for unmolding and curing.
